What Are Dentures?
Dentures are removable appliances that replace missing teeth and help support your smile, chewing and speech. A full denture replaces all the teeth in an upper or lower jaw, while a partial denture fits around your remaining teeth to fill the gaps.
A well-designed denture considers much more than tooth colour. We assess your bite, facial support, tooth positions and the tissues supporting the denture, working closely with experienced dental technicians to create an individual result.
Dentures can rest on the gums, gain support from remaining teeth or be secured using special attachments or dental implants. We’ll explain which design offers the most appropriate balance of comfort, stability, appearance and cost.
What Types Of Dentures Are Available?
Full DenturesFull dentures replace a complete upper or lower set of teeth. We carefully plan their fit, bite and appearance, including how they support your lips and facial features.
Partial DenturesPartial dentures replace some missing teeth while retaining your natural teeth. Acrylic designs can offer a practical, adaptable option, particularly where future additions may be needed.
Metal-Framework DenturesUsually made with a cobalt-chromium framework, these partial dentures can provide a strong, relatively thin structure. They are designed to use suitable remaining teeth for support and retention.
Flexible DenturesFlexible materials may be appropriate for selected partial dentures, offering an alternative appearance and feel. We assess whether their benefits suit your mouth and explain their maintenance and repair limitations.
Dentures With Precision AttachmentsFor suitable patients, dentures can be designed around specially planned crowns and attachments. These provide additional retention and may reduce the need for visible clasps.
Implant-Retained DenturesAn implant-retained denture remains removable but connects securely to implants when placed in your mouth. This can substantially reduce movement and improve confidence when eating and speaking.
Suitable cases may use two to four implants, although the number depends on the jaw, bone and denture design. These are different from fixed implant bridges: you remove the denture yourself for cleaning.
Implant-retained dentures often provide a more affordable route to improved stability than a fixed full-arch reconstruction. Where an existing denture is suitable, we may be able to adapt it to connect to implants rather than make an entirely new one.

Who Are Dentures Suitable For?
Dentures may be suitable if you have several missing teeth, need a full set of replacement teeth or want a removable solution that fits your circumstances and budget.
We also help patients whose current dentures move, rub, look unnatural or make eating difficult. Sometimes an adjustment, reline or replacement is needed; in other cases, implants or precision attachments may offer greater stability.
